Explore - BP4LRPremium Oil Absorbent Pads/Mats (Oil/Fuel Only) || SKU: 1000559 || MPN: PDW24MD10BG || Brand: Darcy
Supplied in packs of 10, Oil Absorbent Pads are manufactured from a base of highly absorbent meltblown polypropylene. The meltblown fibres are then ultrasonically bonded creating a dimpled surface. This bonding creates a reduced linting product with improved tensile strength.
Oil absorbent pads are 100% meltblown polypropylene and are hydrophobic and are designed for use in absorbing hydrocarbon based spills, particularly from watercourses including rivers, brooks and streams. Being hydrophobic they repel water and will float making for easy retrieval.
Oil absorbent pads are colour coded to the BSIF Standards for easy recognition, distinction and visibility.
Oil absorbent pads are:

Explore - BP2REmergency spill response refers to the immediate actions taken to contain, mitigate, and clean up spills of hazardous substances or pollutants that pose a threat to the environment, public health, or property.
Emergency spill response refers to the immediate actions taken to contain, mitigate, and clean up spills of hazardous substances or pollutants that pose a threat to the environment, public health, or property. It involves a coordinated effort by trained professionals to minimise the impact of the spill and protect human health and the environment.
The following we will undertake during our emergency spill response:
1. Rapid Response: Time is critical in spill response. Upon discovering a spill, our trained personnel should be notified immediately to initiate the response process promptly.
2. Assessment and Identification: The first step is to assess the nature and extent of the spill, identifying the type of substance involved and its potential risks. This information helps determine the appropriate response actions and resources needed.
3. Containment and Control: The primary objective is to prevent the spill from spreading further and causing additional damage. This may involve deploying containment booms, barriers, or absorbent materials to confine the spill and prevent it from reaching water bodies, drains, or sensitive areas.
4. Cleanup and Remediation: Once the spill is contained, the cleanup process begins. This may involve using absorbents, vacuum trucks, skimmers, or other specialized equipment to remove the spilled substance. Contaminated soil, water, or other affected materials may need to be treated or disposed of properly.
5. Documentation and Reporting: Detailed documentation of the spill response activities, including photographs, records, and reports, is essential for regulatory compliance and insurance purposes.
6. Post-Spill Assessment: After the cleanup, a post-spill assessment will be carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the response and identify any lingering risks or environmental impacts. This assessment helps determine if further remediation or monitoring is necessary.
EmergencyA bund is a secondary containment system that serves the purpose of capturing any leaks or spillages from a primary containment, such as a storage tank.
A bund is a secondary containment system that serves the purpose of capturing any leaks or spillages from a primary containment, such as a storage tank. It is composed of an impermeable floor and a set of impermeable walls, creating a watertight area around the storage tank. The bund effectively retains any liquid that escapes from the primary containment, preventing it from spilling onto the site or escaping into the environment.
Bund maintenance often overlooked, but it crucial for the longevity and effectiveness the infrastructure. Over time bunds wear and become unfit for their if not properly maintained.ing a maintenance and inspection is important to identify necessary repairs prevent further damage.
An effective bund should collect and contain all substances that enter it, including rainwater and other unwanted debris. Neglecting proper maintenance can lead to a build-up of unwanted materials, reducing the bund's capacity and potentially causing it to fall below requirements. It is essential to regularly remove rainwater and test it for contamination before disposing of it. Contaminated water must be disposed of in accordance with waste regulations or treated using appropriate control measures. For oil bunds, automatic bund water control units can be installed to separate oil and water, pumping out only the water.
In addition to regular rainwater removal, periodic inspections should be conducted to assess the condition of the bund walls, floor, penetration seals, and linings. Any defects or damage should be promptly repaired to prevent further deterioration. Even minor cracks can lead to liquid leakage, and structural issues can significantly weaken the bund walls, risking failure under dynamic loads. Hydrostatic testing, filling the bund with water and monitoring for any loss, can also be performed to determine if the bund is watertight.
If a bund experiences any issues, it is crucial to address and fix them promptly. Defective bunding can be even worse than having no bunding at all, as it can mask leaks and create a false sense of security. Over time, chemicals or oil leaking from faulty bunds can cause serious contamination of the surrounding ground and groundwater. Cracked bunds need to be repaired to ensure not only water-tightness but also structural integrity to withstand potential catastrophic failures. If the bund lining fails, relining or patch repairs should be undertaken.

Our control kiosks enable clients to connect our valves with existing BMS, fire alarm systems, oil interceptors, and more. These pollution and firewater containment valves are versatile, fitting on both curved and flat walled chambers, shallow and deep, providing a convenient alternative to manual penstocks.
Firewater Runoff - CIRIA (736)
Fire water runoff refers to the excess water used during firefighting efforts, which can pose significant environmental risks. The water used to combat fires can carry pollutants and hazardous materials, potentially causing harm to the environment if not managed properly. It is crucial to control and contain fire water runoff to prevent pollution and protect surrounding ecosystems.
Business owners are responsible for managing fire water runoff and must have a Fire Prevention Plan in place to address this issue. This plan should outline procedures for collecting, containing, and safely disposing of fire water in case of emergencies. Compliance with regulations such as CIRIA (736) is essential to prevent environmental accidents and ensure safe management of fire water runoff.
To effectively manage the risks associated with fire water runoff, it is important to conduct a thorough assessment of the premises and identify potential contamination sources. Implementing secondary and tertiary containment measures, such as blocked drains or containment areas, can help prevent unwanted water from entering drainage systems or natural water bodies.
Engaging the expertise of environmental and flood risk consultants can provide valuable support in meeting regulatory requirements and avoiding enforcement actions. These professionals can assist in developing a comprehensive Fire Water Management Plan tailored to your site's specific needs, helping to mitigate liabilities and protect the environment.
Having a clear plan in place to manage fire water runoff is essential for safeguarding your business and the surrounding environment. By taking proactive measures to address this issue, you can minimise financial risks, legal issues, and environmental damage, ensuring a sustainable future for your operations.
